‘Stormin Norman’ – Retired General Norman Schwarzkopf Dies Suddenly in Florida
Gulf War General Norman Schwarzkopf has died at the age of 78
The decorated 4-star General served as Commander of the US Central Command during the war and was Commander of Coalition Forces. It was there that he earned the nickname “Stormin Norman”. Although he was then offered a 5th-star, putting him in league with Dwight D. Eisenhower, he refused, as would Colin Powell some 15-odd years later in the Iraqi War.
Among his many military achievements, Schwarzkopf was also a member of Mensa. His popularity following the Persian Gulf War lead many to urge him to seek public office but the retired General always declined office for himself, instead lending his support for those already in, or seeking, office.
Schwarzkopf also served as a military analyst for NBC during Operation Iraqi Freedom
