One of the best-known, former, Mayors of New York City has died.

Ed Koch, who ran the nation’s most populated city from 1978 – 1989, raised NYC from near financial ruin.  Koch could often be seen walking through the streets of New York asking people, “How am I doing?”, though the answer really didn’t matter at the time.

He had a (well earned) reputation for being tough, no matter who you were – from Donald Trump (whom he called “piggy”), to his eventual successor Rudolph Giuliani (referred to as “nasty man”).

Koch will be buried in the city he loved, NYC, at Trinity Church Cemetery, in a plot he paid $20,000 for.  At the time it was one of the very few places in Manhatten that still had burial plots available.
